Tibetan jewellery indicate social status and political power of the wearer, their symbols are passed down from ancient cultural values. In Buddhist tradition precious stones and jewels often serve as metaphors for the ideals of faith. These metaphors stem from notions of preciousness, rarity and supreme refinement. From time immemorial, gems and jewelry have been considered in this light and were therefore suitable means to express the mysterious and elusive spiritual conditions that relate to religious practices.
